Is this ROOT?
I can see root being the source but where does noisy come into it?

root sounds like route (course).
noisy indicates that something sounds like something else and in this case ROUTE [=course] sounds like ROOT

I'm going mad over 21a!! "Case in carriage" was sure this was an anagram but cant find anything. I_ _ _ _ _C_ . Got the I from Tiny Tim and the C from Roast Chestnuts. Help!!!!!
