Long ago my wife was at home when a vacuum cleaner salesman turned up. She told him that the electrictiy in the house was not 240 Volts but 32V DC (we lived beyond the reaches of the electricity grid). He didn't really comprehend until the vacuum cleaner barely turned its fan when plugged in.
But he did learn something though and showed he was a true saleman. He phoned one day long after to tell that he had found another customer with a genuine 32 Volt Electrolux they no longer used and wondered if we would be interested.
It served us well until we upgraded our system with a 240 volt inverter and bought an modern Electrolux. (We still are not connected to the grid.)
