There are now so many adverts and trailers that the continual 'breaks' (breaks for whom?) ruin anything I settled down to watch. British TV was alwasy considered the best in the world but it was recently rated at 27th in the world - 26 countries now have a better TV service than the UK.I can believe it.
I buy DVDs and box sets and watch those when I want to settle down in the middle of the night. I like Poirot, Columbo, David Attenborough etc. I've just bought Frozen Planet and First Life on DVD. I wouldn't bolster the viewing figures by suffering them on TV.

Hi Missprim,
The thing with DVDs is that you can run them back and concentrate on the lines or points you missed! My concentration isn't too good sometimes but I just go back over what I missed and watch or listen properly. You can also stop them if you want to nip to the loo or to make tea or a bacon sandwich (at 3am!)
I agree about the films. Most are complete trash now, full of cheap trashy plots and actors. There are no modern equivalents of the greats such as John Wayne, Henry Fonda etc. There are a few good films around on DVD though - but you have to look carefully to find the nuggets amongst the dross.
Good luck.
