Strange Feeling in my Chest when i get upset
29 Answers
I have a lot of trouble getting off to sleep, and then I lay there and start thinking about family problems and people in the family who have upset me. I get a funny feeling in my chest which seems to swell up inside, what could this be ? And how can I stop thinking unpleasant thoughts and get off to sleep without my Temazapam? I have these prescribed but try to only take one, once a week if not less. I am prescribed 28 20mg tablets every three months.

Exercise such as a walk before bed.
Personally a scotch and the radio (Beeb4) on a timer
I have heard a glass of cherry juice before bed time can also induce sleep and encourage an extra 40 mins a night on average. There was something in the DT about this and on R4 this last week.
It sounds awfully like stress to me. If anything else, you should see your Doc - and by the way keep of the sleeping tabs if you can.

jom, no, my heart doesn't miss a beat and there is no pain or tightness. just a 'rush'. However ..... it has got better since posting this thread, I have been thinking of 'other things' when my mind wanders to the problems, and it seems to help. It still takes me ages to get off to sleep, even if I'm not worrying though. But I will definitely keep off the pills, maybe take one, once a week, when I have a really bad night the night before. And as I have a bad cold at the moment I am sleeping better! Maybe its old lady hormones ......
