Declining a Job... Advice Please :)

A few weeks ago I got a job as a supply nursery nurse at a council run nursery. I filled out my disclosure form and was waiting to hear about that before I could start. While waiting for that I was offered a full time, permanent job at a private nursery where I had an interview months ago.

Anyway... My question is, do I email recruitment at the council or phone the nursery directly to decline the supply post? It's not even as if i'm declining it as i've already accepted the post. I think i'm confusing myself now!

If you understand that gibberish can you please give me some advice? :) xx

I suggest you write to the person who initially offered you the position you are now declining. It's not uncommon for people to apply for many jobs at once, get offered several and then have to decide which one to take. Maybe in more prosperous times though! Count yourself lucky to have such a choice.

Thanks Spikey :) I think i'll do both, just to be on the safe side. I was so happy when I heard about the full time job but then I feel really bad for having to say no to the other one. Especially since my disclosure and references are already being seen to. You have to do what's best though, eh? :)

i would speak to both... just to be sure... and do it asap to give them chance to replace you

Write them a nice letter, explaining your reasons & apologising for any problems it may cause them.

You never know when you may run into the same people again later in your career :)

Erin, you should definitely follow SpikeyBush's advice. You are indeed fortunate in today's work climate to have the luxury of being able to pick and choose, but you would be foolish indeed not to take full advantage of your good fortune!

The full time job just came out of the blue so i'm still in a bit of shock! :)

I'll phone the nursery tomorrow and send recruitment an email. I'll need to write a letter of resignation for the shop soon as well. Expect a question asking for advice on that in a few weeks or so!! :)
