Soft close toilet seat - that slams shut....

Any suggestions welcomed: bought soft-close toilet seat earlier this year as a treat for the manchild. In the last few weeks it seems to have become impatient and now slams shut like any old bog seat.
Is this a fault that can be remedied, or must it be simply endured? Thanks in advance.

Googling suggests that there's no way of fixing it. e.g.:

However a complaint to the retailer (or manufacturer) might be good enough to get you a replacement. Perhaps it's worth a try?

PS: It might just be my daft sense of humour but I was amused to see the first link provided by Google when searching for 'soft close toilet seat'. It goes to a firm called splashdirect.com ;-)

Just an update....contacted B&Q main office who said tough luck. Sulked for a bit then phoned local branch - 'just bring it in with proof of purchase'. So I did and got my money back.
