I've been to the beautiful Islands of Rhodes (Kiotari) and Zante (Kalamaki). Which islands and resorts do you think are best? I'm looking for idyllic and traditional with plenty of authentic Greek Tavernas.
The south side of Crete always used to be lovely. AFAIK, the touristy stuff is still based on the northern coast with the south side being relatively untouched (like the west coast of rhodes versus the east (faliraki) side). I might be wrong though since it's been a few years.
If you have been to Zante and have have toured the island then you have been around possibly the most beautiful island Greece has to offer. For an alternative go to Santorini where the historical site of Akrotiri is and also the volcano that destroyed the island hundreds of years ago along with , what they believe was Atlantis, the settlements on the north coast of Crete. The island is amazing and not like any other Greek island. Go and see. !!
Just to add to that one . The island is full of great resorts and if your budget is healthy then try for oeia where you will experience the greatest sunset this side of the equator. Every night !!! The place is beautiful . Honest.
