Stunning film, I saw it on the big screen when it came out.
I turned it off...................
Thoroughly enjoyed it, Ben Barnes was excellent, must find out what else he has been in. rosy
i enjoyed it. good acting. and the period costumes excellent.
What programme was it on? Do you think they will repeat it? I remember going to the cinema to see it many years ago. It was called "The Picture of Dorian Gray" Would love to see it again.

Well it kept my attention to the end and the performances by the 3 male leads were excellent. I didn't know Ben Barnes either but apparently he's a teen idol known for playing Prince Caspian in the Narnia Chronicles (which I've never watched).
I laid to rest a 50 year old "ghost" by watching the last half hour. All my life I've remembered being terrified when the "Portrait" was revealed and have never plucked up the courage to watch it since.

I sat peeping through my fingers while my daughter told me whether it was too awful to watch.

I'm 61 for heaven's sake!!!

Anyone know the details of the first film?
Like Craft, we turned it off.
had it from lovefilm.com ages ago.....watched about 20 mins then iurned it off and stuck it back in envelope and sent it back...didnt rate it at all
yes we thought it was excellent both sat riveted on the settee (but for the ad's
I watched it last night for the first time and thought it was good. I haven't seen any other versions to go by though.
Chrissa1, if you go on to IMDB and put in 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' all the info is there. Hurd Hatfield as Dorian, George Sanders as Lord Wotton and Donna Reed as Gladys, made in 1945. If you scroll down the page just past 'user reviews' to Message Boards there is a load of interesting facts, especially in the question 'whatever happened to Hurd Hatfield'. Seems he was a bit like Dorian Gray himself!! Hope this helps, rosy

thanks for that rosyposy quite interesting. I'd never seen Hurd Hatfield in anything else and yet he had very memorable face, almost mannequin like and a bit odd really. I seem to remember the old film as more atmospheric and the changing of the picture more scary than this version too.
Thanks for that rosy. I'm glad you think the original film was scarier than this one Prudie. I've been thinking I've been a wus all these years.
