PDM at last! Having huffed and puffed, suddenly it dawned on me what it was all about. Of course, haven't actually finished it yet but wanted to get in early as never started this thread before. Ho,ho,ho!

PDM 0959 Tuesday (with 20 clues solved and via many byways including Walrus/Carpenter, Lobster Quadrille and a Tom Cruise movie/pop (?) song which seemed to be suggested from the letters from the across clues. You learn so much new stuff doing these things) with final clue solved (24) lying in bed at around 0100 Wednesday. I know that in some years particularly hard puzzles appear in December to carry out sheep/goat interface management, but this year's seem egregiously tricky. Roll on Friday! And a Happy New Year to all our readers.
Contendo: Thanks. I wonder what Jim360 meant by “- about the four projections - all will be revealed...” in the original thread. Perhaps he’ll let us know.
Jockie: The only Tom Cruise film this is bringing to mind is Mission Impossible!
This is proving to be the hardest Listener for several years as far as I’m concerned. About half the clues solved and not the correct ones to give much clue as to the quotation. I’m hoping the moment of satori arrives soon.

I've finally finished as well. A great puzzle with a great theme and for me the right proportion of difficulty between solving the clues and completing the grid. There have been sadly far too many occasions this year, including last week, where I have solved all the clues but then been unable to complete the puzzle.
Happy New Year to everyone.

Finished this one quite early for me i.e. before the next one came out. Thoroughly enjoyed it, especially as it included one of my favourite sketches. Hard clues and I was not sure of the general availabilty of 27ac. Great working out the logic of fitting everything in correctly (assuming that I have).
Very best wishes for the last of the year - looks nasty to me - so I will enjoy teh start of 2012 by ignoring it. Hope thsat all ahve a great New Year.

Just finished, and I must say this is everything you want from a Listener. cluing firm but fair, a theme well but not too obviously signposted, plenty of work to do after the theme was deduced, and tricky construction that left plenty of opportunities for dead ends. Overall very well balanced. See, Mash, this is how it should be done.
