Laptop driving me crazy!

My Sony Vaio VGN-N11M/W laptop is driving me crazy!
So so so slow and freezes from time to time...

Can some kind person give me some help in simple jargon....please.

My first suggestion would be to download, install and run CCleaner:

This should clean-up the laptop and will also allow you to clean-up the registry. With a combination of this and uninstalling any software you don't require any longer via the Control Panel, you may see some improvement.

IE 8...please don`t ask me to download IE9...have had that ...hated it so muc h reverted back to IE8.Have also got Chrome but not too keen on the layout.

Does the laptop freeze and run slow on all applications, or just internet access?

These days, you should be achieving at least 2Mbps.
