Am I out of date with the lingo on the streets?

The schools started back today, and my friends' daughter went back last night. She says she "shotgunned" a top bunk. I asked her what that involved, and apparently to "shotgun" something is just like to "bagsy" something.

Is it just me who totally did not know that ??

I've lived in Herefordshire as well Sherrard, just between Hereford and Ross, lovely place would be happy to move back. At the moment I'm in a little village near Bromsgrove/ Kidderminster and used to also live south of Worcester near to Upton on Severn- wherabouts are you?

Hi NOX, we live by the well known army camp. Quite like the village, it's not picturesque or anything but the people are nice. A big change coming here, very laid back way of life although we haven't had a good time so far things are looking up (and I don't teach anymore so that is a massive plus).

I liked Herefordshire it's super laid back and no-one is too snitty by and large. I was born in Belfast and then came to London to be with my second wife so after a brief stint in Wales we went for Herefordshire- and I really loved it. glad things are looking better for you, miserable times never last forever:)

Thanks NOX, got the kids and himself, his business is starting to look good too. Kids are happy and love school although I don't know what I will do with myself when thing 1 and thing 2 go to school in September. I could never live in London, Aylesbury was bad enough and teaching in Dunstable was horrible.

I didn't mind London too much, I moved into my second wife's place which was in Bloomsbury so it was a 5 min walk to Covent Garden etc, so that was quite ncie actually, but then we moved out to Highgate and then Hampstead and you got all the hassle of London there and not much of the pleasure so I was glad to bolt for the country. I'm self employed and as long as you stick at it and are flexible you can generally make it work with a bit of creativity, so I'm glad things are looking up business wise.

Some years ago, when I had nerve, I was standing at a bus stop and the young man behind me kept wondering out loud where the F-ing bus was. I turned round to him and asked what sort of bus did that - he looked quite bemused....

could be... i have only heard it used for cars... but things have a way of evolving
i thinks its an american thing...but not sure

often though these sorts of phrases begin in a literal sense... perhaps the passenger seat was the perfect seat for use of a shotgun...for hunters perhaps?

I thought riding shotgun originated in stagecoaches, when literally a bloke with the shotgun sat beside the driver to ward off highwayman, bandits, and the like.
