Hello All,

I'm planning to go on for one year maternity leave. But, surely this will create lots of financial problems. I'd like to take up some other short term (ranging between 1 month-4 months) temp contract jobs through agencies to support the family financially, while still keeping my current job secure(so that I have job security). Is it legally possible to take up short term contract jobs at different companies as long as there is no conflict of interests in the job roles, while I'm on maternity leave.

Thanks for any help.

There is no law that says you cannot work for one employer while on maternity leave from another employer. However, you would have to make sure that you wouldn't be in breach of your contract of employment with your primary employer by undertaking other work while you're on maternity leave. Check to see what your contract of employment says or have a word with your manager/HR department.
Sorry, but I certainly hope not. How can you be on leave from one job and expect it to still be open for you and decide to take another job in the meantime.
