While I think the idea is a wee bit silly myself, does any health professional realy have the right to try to make women ( and men for that matter) feel they are 'over-celebrating' the forthcoming arrival of their child? I have to say that Prof Cathy Warwick has fair got up my nose with her high handed approach that parties to welcome and unborn baby raise ' ethical questions'. What a load of old rubbish- what does anyone else think?

it's sunny and cheery actually Jayne- I actually woke up and thought I must be somewhere else;-)
... and then you realise you're just at home!

That's always such a bummer, NOX.
woofgang.. I think it would be unethical to draw a hitler moustache on the image of the foetus, but if a father was being realistic.....
jomifl did I miss something?
Are you sure it's not started by Clinton's Cards?
Allegedly all new borns look like Winston :)
Mine didn't, they were just weird.
Foetus parties : What a silly idea!
it sounds as if he's worried that some women are taking an unduly rose-tinted view of pregnancy. Since it's probably going to be a midwife who has to help them deal with any changes of plan, I think it's fair enough for him to be concerned; his members will be the ones having to deal with any disappointment when birth is difficult or babies turn out to cry a lot.

Having said that, he seems rather narked about misuse of scan photos. It's none of his business what people do with them, and nothing to do with ethics.
I don't think it's sensible in that things can happen during pregnancy and it's probably best to wait until the baby is born for parties. Also, I can see how it could be unethical to a point in terms of the comercialisation as mentioned in the article, I'm not sure I'm 100% in agreement with it but yes, can definitely see how it could be perceived like that.

My knee jerk response was 'For Funks Sake.. what a load of bulls testicles' anyway so doubt it'll be something I'll ever trouble myself with. :c)
In defence, when Nom says she's expecting, we will have a whooping greaat AB party. My fingers have never been tighter crossed for such a nice couple.
Woofgang, re you previous post, I was just trying to think how a scan image could be misused..
lol jomifl....yes I couldn't think of anything either...
