have taken on stray cat. about 7months old, thought she might be pregnant few weeks ago, has put on weight though not massive. her mammoryglands are hanging like cow udders though no secretion, has calmed down and is very affectionate. heard if glands enlarged to that point it was only a matter of 24 - 48 hrs until birth. is this true. please help

Cats can seem to be on the large side and ready to pop for ages! Gestation of a cat is 61-65 days (9 weeks). If she starts searching for hiding places then you know birth is probably days or even hours away. hope this helps


Obviously you need to get her to a vet to be checked out but meanwhile to be on the safe side I'd prepare a nice big cardboard box on its side somewhere in a dark corner with lots of newspaper inside. Make sure she knows it's there and if the event is going to happen she may use it. If she is pregnant she might equally give birth is somewhere totally unsuitable like the bottom of your wardrobe if she can access to it !!
