Not a nice subject I know. You could go into the chemist and get some suppositries, you could have piles (haemroids) not sure on the spelling. Or my advice would be to see a doctor, sometimes through straining you could get a Fissure which is a break in the anal canal, caused through constipation, causing pain and bleeding in the bowel movement, and I know that is very painful. If you are to embarassed, use the suppositries first and see hoe you go. Good luck

I'd also point out that every year many people die from Bowel cancer needlessly because they were too embaressed to go to their GP about things like this.

I'm sure that's not the problem in your case but this is nothing your doctor won't have dealt with 20 times this week already

Both previous answers are sound - but blood in the bowel motion is not a good sign - go to your GP and get an examination. It may be something simple like haemeroids, or a small polip, but it could be something more serious which can be treated and cured if located, and becme life-threatening if ignored.

No-one is fond of having a stranger explore their rectum (leave it!) but it's worth it to put your mind at rest.

I had that. the question the Doctor asked me was, 'Is the blood actually in the stools or separate from them?' Make sure you check before you go and visit him.

I agree with those who say you should get a proper medical opinion, for your own piece of mind if nothing else. As Andy and Jake imply, the earlier you see a doctor, the more likely they will be able to cure you, should, god forbid, it turns out to be serious. Worth a bit of embarrasment, I'd think!

I can add that if the blood is bright scarlet, it is unlikely to be anything too serious - probably you've strained too hard and ruptured a small blood vessel.

If it's dark and within the stool itself, it is potentially much more serious.

Go get checked by the Dr, it'll put your mind at rest. Bowel cancer is very uncommon in people under 50.
I had lots of bleeding and it was because i was taking about 6 asparin a day directly on my gums for toothache.

Good luck

Doctor straight away PLEASE !!!!
I agree with everyone else you must get to a doctor ASAP! It may be something minor but if its not then the sooner you get it seen to the better. The fact that you feel constipated makes me think that youre just bursting a blood vessel, if this is so than you can probably sort it out with dietary changes lots of fibre from whole grains & fruit & veg and make sure your getting enough water about 2 litres a day. But Im definitely no expert so please go see your gp, hes probably done checks like this hundreds of times before so please dont put off a visit because of embarrassment!
Painful pooping with blood is usually from a little anal tear or pile, especially if particularly hard (oh boy, such detail...). If it's fresh blood or appears on paper after the wipe then it's externally generated blood and nothing to worry about. Internal blood is usually darker and in the body of the you know whats. Once you have found out which it is it's quite easy to tell the difference, yours sounds external under the circumstances you gave, which is by far the usual case, but I'm not a doctor!
If you can see blood separate from the stool then it is just piles or hemoroids ( excuse the spelling ). Severe cases need surgery. In terms of diet, drink more water and take high-fibre vegetables. A friend who went thru this type of surgery told me beansprouts are good for that.

If it is gastric bleeding, your stool would come out intensely dark, close to dark brown or black. Has something to do with the incorporation of blood with the food stuff digested inside. Ulcer bleeding would also contribute to dark colored stools.

To have peace of mind, seeing a doctor is best. i'd suggest getting second or third opinions. And don't get too stressed out about it, it adds to the bleeding.

For lack of a better greeting.. Cheers

Haggisdj - Perhaps it was due to that old bone shaker you've been riding on!

My apologies - I just couldn't resist that! Truly, I do hope you are well. See ya soon.

Forgive that private joke for Haggisdj sammibee.

I'm really do hope you will make an appointment to see your GP very soon. Take care.
