BT Vision enquiry
4 Answers
I have just got BT Vision, and now my grandson (19) who lives with me is complaining that he can't get his signals as quickly as he used to do. My internet speed is about 7.5Mb and I was advised that everything would be OK. It happens when I'm watching TV and he's on his computer in another room. My computer is in the same room as my TV, and is always on when I am at home. (Please don't be too technical with your answer as I just glaze over.)
It's causing a problem, and I feel like just sending all the BT Vision stuff back.
I haven't got a Freeview box, but have a modern digital TV which receives Freeview but I can't record anything. My grandson says I don't need Vision, just a Freeview box.

Freeview and BT vision are not the same thing, you have to but a special Freeview box to be able to record programmes, whereas BT Vision does that all in. I can't see how the speed of the internet would be affected in any way by it though.

BT visions on demand stuff is provided over your Internet connection, the live stuff is just normal freeview, so if you are watching on demand things it will use up a portion of your available bandwidth on your Internet connection which won't leave as much for him to use.
So either stick to watching live stuff only while he's on the Internet, or (as daffy said) tell him to put up with it unless he wants to pay the bill.
Though BT vision only uses about 1.6-2Mb/s of your bandwidth, so he should still have about 5Mb + to use, which should be plenty for most things.
