i couldnt even hold down water and lost weight at the start, i had this with both of my pregnancies, it hasnt put me off having more, i would suggest you see your gp as there are drugs that can help you, i couldnt take the oral tablets but i was given suppositories (sp) luckily i was taking into hospital before i had to use them!
Speak to your gp or midwife, they can advise you, just because you have had it once it doesnt mean you will get it again, good luck xx
I know that there is a link with hyperemesis and premature labour, and certainly, with my third I went into labour at 28 weeks and then kept having to go back every 2 weeks for the same drugs. I went all the way to 36 weeks, but baby came in 12 minutes flat, and was delivered at home, but was fine!!! This does not mean that this will happen to you though, I do have a history of prem birth for other reason, all my 5 kids were early ranging from 38 weeks, the latest, and 31 weeks the earliest.
Don't think they can all be related to the sickness, as I only had Hyperemesis with one. I always had a tenuous relationsip with food though, and I am more sicky now as a person, weirdly.
I'm sure you will go on to have a perfectly normal pregnancy. I do wish you all the best of luck.
I did suffer from hyperemesis with both my pregnancies, but it was slightly less horrendous the second time around. I think that was because I knew what to expect, I knew that I had had a healthy baby first time round despite all the vomiting and that the sickness would go away as soon as I had given birth again. My son was less than 12 months old when I was pregnant again, so it was difficult being so ill with a baby, but I didn't feel as desperate as I did the first time. You might not get the hyperemesis again, but if you do at least you know what you are dealing with. I hope it doesn't put you off having another baby if you want one.
And whilst us sufferers are reading this - how annoying are those people who tell you they were "really sick" when they were pregnant, and it turns out they just felt a bit quesy in the mornings and perhaps went off tea or coffee!! They want to try vomiting 20 times a day. And what about the books that say "try a ginger biscuit before you get out of bed" - arghhhhhhh..........
Also, I had a visitor from my pregnant friend when I was in hospital again, being rehydrated; she bought in a big mac meal, complaining that "oh, i'm just so sick, I know how you feel, I can only eat take away at the moment."
Not what you want to hear when you have problems keeping water down and had just vomited all over the floor just cos you saw a midwife eating a milky bar!
Hyperemesis has to be one of the WORST pregnancy complaints ever. I really really really sympathise with you lumihum. Hang in there, it'll come to an end eventually.
