Hmmm - would BT email you to say that you had been blocked, then ask you for password information by email?
No. It's a scam.
Phone BT and report it - if you can stand their queuing system.
To check if your computer has been fiddled with you need to run an antivirus scan, and then any other useful programs you may have installed such as spybot and c-cleaner.
Find your antivirus program - it might be Norton, Macafee, Avast etc click on it and find 'run scan'. When the scan has run you might see it asks should it delete the following....hopefully it might say 'no threats detected'.

Hi it is me again - and no further on - ran the full scan - then got through to BT but as I am deaf had great difficulty hearing an Indian accent he gave me a number to get through to Hotmail and of course I must have got it wrong because it is the wrong number. I googled it and of course giving numbers to call that very expensive - anybody know hotmail number - he gave me something like 0800 386 550 but it is wrong. Thanks for any replies

How did you manage to read this email if you are unable to get into your email? If you are still able to access Hotmail through your usual manner then you cannot be blocked.
If you tried to change your password via a link in the email then you have probably given the scammers your full login details and they will have been using your account to send out spam, they may also have your banking details and home address from any emails you have saved from online shopping.
Cancel any debit and credit cards you have asap.
