but the grays outweigh the stench!!! i bought a dye for a fiver as i'm on a budget, but are there any out there that don't smell of toilet cleaner? i left it until i coudn't stand to look at the gray in the mirror and asda didn't actually stock that much. any tips would be gratefully received x

I am almost 65 with very little grey, just a bit at the front. However, my hair is a dull mousy brown. Unless you are all over grey it can make sense to have blonde highlights put through your hair, the grey blends in with the blonde and gives a very soft colour and it is better when we age to go fairer rather than try to go back to original dark colours with can look hard.

I must admit my highlights are done at the hairdresser about every three months! No attempts any more at do it yourself.

My hair colour changes regularly mixed blondes at the moment might go back to coppers and reds or even dark chocolate... when I retire I can be a bit wilder... I think the blues and purples might reappear. Very hard to wreck your hair with modern colours its bleaching and perming that do the most damage and heated hair styling

Am chestnut with blonde hilites. Salon tinted every 6w & costs out at £8pw or £1+pday. No way do I give up on myself !

n.b. Extra strength peroxide needed to cover grey is not public retailed & only available thru salons. Takes 40mins max for a tint.

I buy my hair colour from our local hairdressing trade outlet - it only costs about a fiver a tube - then my nice mobile hairdresser young man does it for me for a tenner. I wouldn't want to do it myself.

where can you find a mobile hairdresser? is it through friends or do they advertise? as i said...any tips welcome as i am usually a complete mess. i have had my hair cut recently and went to a salon. it cost me £34 for a wet cut and blow dry ;o(

Cutting/styling is the most exacting work of the trade yet commands least income; styling has to please the client. Did you shampoo your own hair to have a wet cut ? Did the stylist hold a hairdryer to blow dry your hair ? Depending of hair length, working a handheld dryer is painful & tiresome. Premise costs are added to work done. £34 for a trained pro in a salon is not unreasonable if you are 'ecstatic' with the finish. Mobile stylists are least qualified if at all.

I grew mine out about a year ago and am really glad I did,its so much cheaper and friends and family love the colour.Still get dye stains in the bathroom though because now I have to do my grandsons and he uses blue/black.

about your question on mobile hairdresser, I dont know one of these, but to having your hair cut more cheaply have you considered being a model for trainees? When I want my hair cut I look on gumtree and they have plenty of trainees looking for someone to have their hair cut. It takes over two hours but it is very well supervised and free of charge.
