A scherzo is a short piece of music often the start of a longer one which is very fast and happy, meant to lift the mood of the piece. The fingers on a piano scherzo are often moving so fast that they look a blur, for example Martha Argerich's speed in prelude in B flat minor Op 28 no 16 - brilliant!
