Hello everyone, sorry this is a bit lengthy - my son has cleared the shed in a house he's bought, and found among the cobwebs the following:- A Magnum of Freixenet Black Label Cava Brut; 6 unopened bottles of Young's D-Day Ale 1944-1994, brewed to commemorate the Landings; a bottle of champagne, Raymond Boulard Grand Cru Brut; 2 bottles of Hardy Chardonnay Semillon with the dates 2000 and 2001; and a bottle of Piesporter labelled 1999 with the recommendation it should be consumed within 6 months of purchase(!)
I don't think the white wines will be drinkable obviously, but perhaps the sparkling wines would still be OK? There aren't any dates on them, but perhaps they were stashed along with the others. And the beer would probably only be of interest to a collector now, wouldn't you say? Any comments gratefully received. -g-
Thanks boxtops, I spoke to a knowledgeable young man at Tesco, who tells me the bubbly will be perfectly fine, in fact possibly much enhanced after their long sleep (his words) but the whites may be fit only for cooking, if that. The beer will be of interest to collectors of breweriana, so I may test the Ebay waters, or perhaps display them on a shelf in the kitchen with a couple of rather nice tankards there. Thanks for your reply. -G-
