Why would any police force need a VW R32? Assuming that is what it was.

It is only a lump of metal (well it is now).

The police need cars fast enough to catch what ever the villans are driving !

40 grand a pop, are you serious, our plods can't get through the bloody traffic, let alone behave like boy racers, and in one of those monsters liable to kill someone

It seems you can get Audi A3 hatchbacks with much the same top speed as the R32 for less money. This smacks of playtime for someone.
they'll fall over themselves to let the police have demo's, the contract to supply the cars must be worth a pretty penny.

I can get a high vlaue car to demo without any problems and ours is a mixed fleet

In Germany, when I was there 20 years ago, I often saw 2 policemen driving around in a Porsche
