house coal no good on multi fuel stove

I just bought two bags of house coal on my neighbours say so to find I cannot burn it on my multi fuel stove one bag is open, I could prehap's mention selling it on the next door if they are interested or as I plan to have outdoor 'things' in the future like firepits and the 'chim-don't remember name' can you put house coal on them?

Why can't you burn it on your multi-fuel stove? That's what multi-fuel stoves do.

you need stovesse for good, cleanish heat on multifuel stove!

Just asked himself (who sells and installs multi-fuel stoves) and yes, you can definitely burn coal in a multi-fuel stove.

years ago i was on contract at power station . a bit of coal was no problem, one of the welders took some home and nearly burnt the house down.it was a "super coal"

If the problem is that the coal won't light or burn evenly/properly, then start a fire with kindling and logs and then feed the coal on once the stove has a good blaze going.

If the problem is that you are in a smokeless zone, then your neighbour wants a smack ...

I don't understand why you can't use the coal? Defeats the object of a multifuel dunnit, if it doesn't actually multi anything!

You can burn nearly anything on a multi fuel stove- whay are you having problems?

Perhaps "multi" means oil, gas, or electricity :-)

All is not lost! You can use a little coal to get it going and switch to smokeless or anthracite. Our multi fuel runs on seasoned wood of any kind (including skip raided) and smokeless fuel and I guess yours will be the same.

well I thought 'multi' meant all wood and coal, but on reading the house coal bag in detail it says not for multi fuel stoves, cooking stoves (basically no to everything but open fires??...Opps didn't read it in the shop.

So I got the stove instructions out and read it said not to use house coal but only smokeless, I also got an info pack written by my local installer that says the same.

On googling it states that other manufactures say the same and it is to do with the fact house coal is too bituminous and burns too hot and it can damage or at least age the parts of your stove a lot quicker than smokeless or wood.

i have some on now no problems lighting it but I have it turned now and I have only put a little bit on and won't load more on. Yes maybe I should keep it and space it out with smokeless?

I have a ton of wood here all from my renovation but a lot is treated which is why I have been struggling to find other fuels to at least allow me to space out the more toxic treated wood.

Yes, that's it, Mrs What ................ it'll burn ok but at a very high temperature. Rather too high for a cast iron stove I think.
