I checked my online banking in the UK and discovered that a cheque for a few hundred pounds had been paid into my account. The reference name is Q. I called the bank and he cheque is yet to clear so they're unable to know who it is from. When it is cleared they will be able to tell where it was deposited. I'm just curious!
I haven't lived in the UK for a few years so I'm confused where this has come from.
The guy at customer service said that it's a cheque that has actually been paid into a branch.
Surely it wouldn't be a mistake? Who gives a reference number Q? Is this a tax rebate? My account is only 3 years old. Not many people have my details.
I was wondering why you thought it might be a tax rebate? would expect those to be paid by online transfer or a cheque to you - I don't think HMRC staff would pay it in for you at a branch
the guy on the phone said the sometimes pay in cheques at branches...but yeah I'l probably wait until it clears and then call again!! I was also thinking it's not some scam or linked to fraud?!
