Don't risk breaking the lock - on our old family Singer, it was the lock which kept the lid fixed to the base, and then you carried it about using the handle on the lid.
can you poke something slim into the hole and press a lever bit down? not sure how the lock works but im sure my old one just had a little square ended key
Locksmiths don't come cheap. It could be a simple single lever in which case somebody with a set of watchmakers type screwdrivers might do it. You can get them very cheap in stores that do discount hardware. Or a fine allen key might sort it. Good luck
Its my grans havent seen it for yearsss and had to get my dad to carry it!! I dont want to break it was just hoping i could pick it!! ....fingers crossed i am dying to see it xx
This might help but give it a squirt of WD40. Maybe your Dad could make a simple lock pick as described. Worth giving it a good poking first though. You never know
