Just been gifted an old singer sewing machine!! But its locked!!! And no key!!

Do you think i could pick the lock??
Would a locksmith deal with it x

You lucky person, I hope it works!

Don't risk breaking the lock - on our old family Singer, it was the lock which kept the lid fixed to the base, and then you carried it about using the handle on the lid.
can you poke something slim into the hole and press a lever bit down? not sure how the lock works but im sure my old one just had a little square ended key
yeah same here boxy, mine was broken so i had to carry it across my arms... wonder if i'd ever had to pick the lock ;)
Locksmiths don't come cheap. It could be a simple single lever in which case somebody with a set of watchmakers type screwdrivers might do it. You can get them very cheap in stores that do discount hardware. Or a fine allen key might sort it. Good luck

Its my grans havent seen it for yearsss and had to get my dad to carry it!! I dont want to break it was just hoping i could pick it!! ....fingers crossed i am dying to see it xx

This might help but give it a squirt of WD40. Maybe your Dad could make a simple lock pick as described. Worth giving it a good poking first though. You never know

Why lock a sewing machine?

I suppose it stops a burglar running up a pair of curtains.

Its a locking carry case once the lid comes off its fine...

I just unscrewed the screws LOL... Its lovely just like i a wee bit remember it- And my dad. Xxx memories!
