My name has no Scottish element, so I couldn't find a link to any tartan.
The first time I bought a kilt (as a grown up) was for a Burns Night, so ... I thought, maybe a Burns tartan?
I discovered that Burns does not have a tartan.
But ... (I hope I've got this right) ... the Burnses had a clan allegiance (yes??) to the Campells of Argyle. So the nearest tartan to what I was looking for was a Campbell of Argyle ... which is quite a nice tartan.
But I remember reading that the Campbells were some sort of enemies of some other clan, or something of the sort, and there were some towns where the Campbells are not welcome.

Such as on the Isle of Man, Jayne....
Quite a few years ago, a local Manner murdered a tourist by the name of Campbell.
The lawyer found that the Manx Parliament (The Tynwald - 2nd oldest in the World) had not repealed the law that permitted the murder of anybody called Campbell coming to the Island. They used to visit for R&R (Rape and Robbery).
Anyway, on this technicality he was set free - I wonder if this is the origin of Scot Free (don't know that one.....)
