I am sure this question has been asked before - but just watched it last week and did wonder how did Andy Dufresne was able to put back the picture of Raquel Welsh as he was tunnelling his way down the tunnel. My brother RIP commented that night but I never knew how that was possible.
There hs a degree of poetic licence in the original story (the poster is Rita Heyworth) whereby the poster never gets creased or torn in spite of continual movement over years - but that in no way detracts from a fabulous novella, and one of the few acceptable film versions of mr king's work.
When the warden throws the chess peices at the poster you can see its only stuck at the top. The question should be, given how mauch space is behind the poster, why is there no wind to move it?
Andy in the original novella doesn't he keep replacing the poster? It starts off as Rita Heyworth and changes. No?
I watched it the other night too and bluddy wonderful it was even after numerous viewings over the years. The posters went: Rita Hayworth/Marilyn Monroe/Raquel Welch. Am I right or am I right?
Its one of my favourite films too [ and The Goodfellas] I like it best from when he escapes and the sh*t hits the fan.The ending has got to one of the best film endings ever. The script was done from a short story by Stephen King worth a read too.
