They say applications are down this year, but then they were up last year.

To beat the increase, few people took a gap year last year.

Maybe the tuition fees should be related to the type of qualification/degree? i.e. subjects which are intensive and difficult (engineering, science etc.,) should be free and the so-called Mickey Mouse subjects should be the ones to subjected to the highest fees. B.
