My son has been complaining of having a blocked ear. No real pain, just says it's really annoying. He feels a bit deaf in that ear and feels like it needs to pop.

Are there any over the counter remedies I could get?

He doesn't want to go to the doctor because he doesn't want to ruin his 100% school attendance record...teenagers!!!

Almost certainly wax.

Go to the chemist and buy some cerumol drops OR hydrogen peroxide and that inserted into the affected ear MIGHT do the trick.

I tried Boots own Ear wax remover drops and its just brilliant - Every year for the past twenty or so years I have to go and have my ears syringed at the doctors as they get full of wax build up. I get fed up with being stone deaf for a week while I'm putting the olive oil in ready for the syringing so I thought I would try these drops and all I can say is that they are amazing. Just warn your son though, after you have put the drops in, the ear makes a lot of fizzing and popping noises, but don't worry its just dissolving all the wax. Please try them ummmm. Good luck - let me know if they work!
