Click on arrow next to home--top left of page -- click account settings -- on left of page see security -- click on that -- at bottom of page you should see deactivate account.

I don't think you can.

You may be able to go back and cleanse your account though by deleting your posts and photos.

You used to be able to - my son did it when his account got hacked. But can't find anywhere that allows me to.

There MUST be a way ...where are all the tecchies when you need...will take a look and see...
I think your user name here could do with some attention too, lol.
As above, little arrow by home, account settings, security, deactivate account.

Cheeky PD!
I think I was answering 'how can I delete my FB account' - which I'm pretty sure you can't do.

What does deactivating do? Is you account just frozen in time?
Yes Eccles. You can re-activate at any time...
Question Author
I guess so Eccles - if I want activate again, I just need to log in with username & password.
So what's the difference between deactivation and logging out.

Have I just asked a really thick question???

If you deactivate you won't come up on searches...you'll never appear in 'friends you might know'

No one can view you page....it's gone....but only into facebook purgatory.
Question Author
Thanks HW - am happy to deactivate for now - might make it permanent later.
