fusty polo shirts

my husband always complains that his work polo shirts smell fusty after i have washed them all his other clother are fine what could it be? any suggostions appreciated

I'm not sure what could be causing this with polo shirts in particular, but do you use fabric softener? I use comfort creme and the smell lasts on the clothes until the next wash - it's lovely!

It is probably to do with the material - I would guess that they are not 100% cotton. Being work shirts, they probably get a bit sweaty as well. I think that washing on a higher temerature probably only seals in the smell more. I think I remember somewhere that soaking in a mild vinegar (white vinegar - not malt!) solution takes away odours, but I can't remember where I read it. I think you soak it for a while, then wash as normal.
