Why wasn't this a racial attack?

This is to be classed by the police as a hate crime, had it been an attack by a gang of whites upon a black person, it would have been an entirely different matter.

It would then have certainly been classed a racial attack and some ABers would have be clambering to post their utter disgust at such a cowardly and savage attack.

Interesting to note that Det Insp Dave Moores said:

What conclusions does he mean, that two poor defenceless young white men were attacked by a mob of eight Asian youths, and it was not a racial attack, what other conclusion could one come to?

pdust, it could be that the charge you refer to was 'incitement to racial hatred' . The phrase 'hate crime' is a generic term for various related offences.

If I were the father of someone who had been beaten senseless by a group of Asian thugs, I would be furious at them, rather than Britain't immigration policy over the last 50 year.

Because it makes much more sense to focus your anger on a person, than something as intangible as a political policy or philosophy.

In the same way - if I were a parent of a child who had developed leukemia and had been treated by a specialist at Great Ormond Street who was an East African Asian, I wouldn't be thinking, "Thank God for Britain's immigration policy of the 60s/70s". I would be thinking, "Thank God we have one of the countries leading authorities in the treatment of leukemia..."

At least one of the victims percieved the attack as racially motivated (a Hate crime).

According to the media, one of the victims had his wallet stolen during the attack, which if confirmed, then there is also the very serious offence of Robbery here. (and a bladed weapon involved).

Good point sp1814, yes of course one would be blaming the individuals, but if they had a particular label you would surely attach that also.

Let me try and explain, perhaps from a more popular view point.

If the lad had been attacked by a gang of skin heads, BMP members or EDL members, then surely one wouldn't just focus their anger on the individuals but also the 'skin heads', the 'BNP', or the 'EDL'?

Given that there are a massive number of peaceful, friendly Asian people in the UK, being of Asian origin does not make someone likely to attack a white person for no reason. Being a horrible bastard with misguided bitterness towards white people might, but that's not as a direct result of being Asian, it's far more than that. We've had the same discussion many times over your views on black youths involved in crime in London.
Without wanting this to sound like a personal attack, I believe your views are more closely associated with the views of the attackers that those of the victim here.

The attackers where in the takeaway with a group of friends which included whites as well as asians. This would suggest that their reason for the cowardly attack was not race, skin colour or religion, but some other reason.
