I found this site from a sheep farmer in New York State who breeds Merino sheep for their wool and in a FAQ section read this ...
"Q) How much wool do you get from one Merino sheep? A) Between 10 - 18 lbs. More from rams because of their larger size.
Q) How many sweaters will that make? A) About 4 or 5, after washing and processing the wool.
