I don't do much baking but I am going to try my hand at some cherry scones tomorrow (and fruit ones for the ones who suddenly don't like cherry scones). I am fed up of buying cherry scones who you have to play 'hunt the cherry' but how big can I leave the pieces of cherry (I have bought whole glacé cherries)? Thanks.
Halve them and wash them, dry them thoroughly and dust them in a little flour before adding them to the mix and you should have nice cherry scones with a decent bit of cherry upon which to chomp!!
Thanks both - bit worried that there won't be any cherries left to make scones as I had to open them to check who did and didn't like them and I can hear them calling to me!
that's fine sher, you need only one to make the scones!.......less than one really!.........make those homemade scones!....they taste so much better than the ones you can ever buy!.........
Haven't got any advice on the cherries but happy baking - sounds lovely. For a lovely taste also use real butter in the scone mix.............mmmmmmmm x
Make sure you wash and dry them and then chop them into small pieces. Then shake them in a little bit of flour. This stops them sinking to the bottom. Im sure they will be yummy. I love making scones
Actually, you don't need to wash and dry them etc for scones, you only need to do that if its going into a cake mix as the cherries are a lot heavier than the cake mix and that makes them sink to the bottom. In a scone mix they will stay where you put them. For a nice alternative make apricot scones. Use ready-to-eat apricots (not from a tin). Use kitchen scissors to cut them into small pieces. Two vertical cuts to make three strips, then cut into small squares. Have fun!
