Where do birds go to die?

A post on another question just made me think of this.

Why do you never see dead birds (apart from the remains of those ravaged by hungry cats)?

Surely the sight of a of bird that's popped it's cloggs mid flight should be common but I don't think I've ever seen a dead bird....

I diddn't mean to upset anyone. I love watching birds especially the Brent
geese. My uncle dosen't kill them, he goes to some proper bona fide place.

Does anyone know what the most prolific garden bird is. I thought it might
be the starling, but according to some quiz the answer is hedge sparrow.
The programme was a few years old. I hardly see any sparrows in my garden.
I think the quiz was 100 v 1, which is a few years old now.

I don't know how they do those surveys which is the most common garden bird. It surely depends on the area, nearest bush/reserve, and very much on the plantings in the garden itself.

You would think that the bird that comes no 1 in the yearly RSPB big garden birdwatch would be the most prolific. In which case it ain't the hedge sparrow.

2011 results:

House sparrows retained top spot for the eighth year running, with an average of four seen per garden.

Starlings and blackbirds swapped positions on the 2011 leader board, with starlings now at number two and blackbirds at number three.

Starling sightings increased by a quarter since 2010, but their numbers are still down from when Big Garden Birdwatch began in 1979.

They die the same as any other wild animal, usually dark private places, birds wouldn't be flying if they were dying, Any that die over roads end up in drains, of course any ill bird is easy pickings for predators.

Weve had quite a few birds die outside our patio windows as a result of flying into them. I always get them up with a shovel and place them gently in the bin. I hate doing it as they feel so........ dead :>(
