Hi everyone I have been in massive pain with chest and thought t first it may be heart attack, after significant testing come t the conclusion it is a hiatus hernia, I am massive pain every day and I am just wondering what the best thing to do is, whether it will be best to be operated upon or what, I am seeing a specialist soon and am wondering what he will say if I anyone can shed any light upon this I will be very grateful!! Thanks alex :) x
Diet will play abig part in the treatment of this condition. You should eat small meals more often rather than three big meals. Try and avoid drinking with food. Don't lie down soon after eating. It is the reflux which is causing the pain. This can cause ulceration of the gullet which is not good. Depending on the severity of your condition he may recommend an operation to pull the stomach back into place. While all operations are serious. The procedure is not as invasive as it once was but recovery is all around diet and different eating habits.
I know this may not be very welcome advice, but, if you are overweight, losing weight really helps this condition.
Easier said than done.
Hope you get some relief soon.

A hiatus hernia is when part of the stomach around the oesephagal entry to the stomach passes up through the hole provided in the diaphram. It is common among women who have borne children and is due to the stress of pregancy and birth on the diaphram.
My wife got a hiatus hernia about 20 years ago. Doctor's advice was to "live with it". The doc said there was an operation but it usually recurred anyway so wasn't really worth it.
She mentioned the problem to a parent at the school where she worked. He had been trained in natural medicine in China and said he could fix it there and then.
She lay on the desk and he pressed his hands hard into her stomach just below the rib cage. He simply felt through her body wall and literally pulled it back out.
It hurt like hell but it fixed it and she never had the problem again.
Thanks guys for your help :) and I hope they do something as I am doing the small meals and pills to help as well all with no affect sadly hopefully they will operate to more affect!! Cheers guys :)
Also I went to a chiropractor who did the same thing as the chinese man mentioned here. He showed me how you can "pull" it down yourself. I think mine must be slidey cos it didn't actually pop back down. But still definitely worth a try!
