Just had to ring Barclaycard because they week they upped my credit limit and I didn't want them too. I sent a text to say no but noticed on my phone today that it had seemed to fail, so have just now rung the alternative phone number.

Now I'm not being racist, but the call was answered by an Indian (probably was India) and though he spoke English, I could not understand him, and I have to be honest, in frustration I just said don't worry Ill leave it and hung up.

Why do they do this though? why have call centre staff you cannot understand?

I had similar experiences with Virgin once and have never called them since.

Call in to your nearest Barclays Branch and get them to sort it out

er, Barclaycard.....
Having complained to my car insurance company about a similar problem with the phone-service, they gave me a freephone number that puts me through to a UK call-centre. (It's in Liverpool, so I still can't understand them!..........JOKE!).
Could be worse Gingebee, burrminghamm or Noocassel or heaven forfend, Scotland :D
Talk to a nice Lady in one of BT's Call Centres in Glasgow sometimes alba !
We cannot understand much of what each other says but we have a laugh about it !!!
....and redman's idea is not bad- even if you don't bank with Barclays. If you see a Personal banker in branch, explain the problem and they may sort it out for you - or, at least, give you a Barclaycard UK number.
In those instances you always have the right to be dealt with by a native english speaker

You just politely ask to be transferred to the UK contact centre.

Red, I like the toleration which can arise between different accents and a good giggle is worth its weight in gold. Brightens up the day no end.

However, some are just so thick (the accents that is) which make it really difficult.
