We went to Phuket in Oct and from our experience, you will get a huge downpour early evening for about an hour...it was like clockwork. We timed it so we'd be at dinner for the rain. It didn't rain during the day.

Yeah, it's just a downpour....usually quite refreshing! It doesn't last long.
