Must tell you I'm a bit of a technophobe. I have a Fuji E500 digital camera which works fine outside but I need to take some indoor photos and when I press the button the whole thing goes blank. Does that make sense.

how does it know you are inside?

My fuji thought it was sometimes light enough to take photos without flash indoors ( but at speeds of 1/25 of a second) caused quite a lot of blurry phots
You need to use fill in flash and faster speeds

Have you set the flash to 'Off' it should automatically use the flash if the light too low.
I have a Fuji Fine Pix and it 'eats' batteries it will only work properly with 2900mAh rechargeables I had some 800 mAh ones and they were useless in it. Now I have some 2900 mAh recharge ables I got on ebay and they work fine. Takes 4 AA cells but even brand new Alkaline cells were no use or do just 4 or 5 photos. What you describe sounds like my camera with poor batteries
