I have a hand knitted vintage cardi (white)

And it needs washed!? Our washing machine can sometimes catch clothes...we need a new paddle for it..

Was going to put the cardi in a white pillow slip and secure it with a band to wash it?

Should i mabye throw in a tennis ball too ? To help "beat the water out" because i know that sometimes items still come out soaking wet when theres nothing else in the machine (its happened before - and i dont have those JML ball things you use ) xx

Hand wash it with a gentle detergent the first time and put in the washer on a minimum spin...

Its white and its makeup thats on the back so im wondeing if handwashing would be effective!?

I actually have 3 i want to wash so im glad for the help though!!! Thanks xxxx
Hand wash it in Stergene and dry flat on a towel, in fact here's more details:

http://laundry.about....a/washingsweaters.htm
what is it knitted in... only old wool can't be machine washed as it felts ols silk yarn would possibly fall apart... Hand wash vert gently with stergene or lux flakes in tepid water after spot cleaning the makeup with a little eucalyptus oil or spirit based stain remover dabbing with paper towels

rinse really well do not use fabric softener and roll in a thick towel dry flat on a rack or even on a dry towel on the floor after gently pulling it back into shape

Or have it proffessionally cleaned

Lakeland sell dry cleaning kits that you use in the tumble dryer.I have found them quite effective. Would post a link if I knew how to do it.

Fab ill look on google and ebay xx
Tinker wash it by hand in warm water. Before you wet it, spray some Frend or Vanish wehre the makeup is for about five minutes, gently scrub out and then wash. Dry flat if possible. Could take a couple of days to dry but worth it. Cool iron./
If you go to an outdoor clothing shop and get something to wash down-filled jackets that should be OK.
