Hi all,

I am hoping someone can help me.
I fell on Thursday and broke both sides of my ankle. On Sunday I had a metal plate put in one side and a rod in the other and I am in a plaster cast for 8 weeks. I was given Tramedol and Cocodemol to be taken every 4 hours. My problem is I am feeling it sting and burn around the wound areas. It's really uncomfortable and I was just wondering if this is normal. I am reluctant to go back to the hospital because when putting the cast on I needed 2 shots of morphine it was so painful. When I take my painkillers obviously it eases but I am scared I become dependent on them.

Thanks for any help :)

OK. You're on the daily list for a month.
I think its normal to get some pain, but be assured you will be fine once all is healed, I have a friend who broke her ankle and now has metal plates in and she is as good as new, doing regular dog walking, hope you feel better soon.

thanks so much bundleone, thats good to know
I think it depends on your age. I did the same thing last September and I had the same sort of pain when I was in plaster. I got off the pain killers as soon as I could as they made me constipated. I too am now walking my dog again but it took a long time (I am in my late seventies). My niece who is in her forties and did the samethg took much less time, but we are both now walking well. Try to keep cheerful, it will get better andthe pain will go in time.
