Thanks tony, poor girl is in tears, it was her sisters car she did it to.
Oh my god, i feel for her. Still she is not the first and will certainly not be the last. Good luck.
According to this link:

http://www.stopdiesel...ut-diesel-misfuelling

''The AA charges you £176.50 just to drain your tank''

:-/
Yes, they do
My mum did this a couple of years ago and it was some where in the region of £60
From the AA website
Do not touch the ignition. Some manufacturers advise that you should get seals and filters renewed even if the engine has not been run.

A small amount of incorrect fuel should not damage the engine as long as you have not started the car and top up fully with diesel.

If you've added more than 5 litres of petrol – Drain the tank and refill with diesel
If you've added less than 5 litres of petrol – Top up with diesel and run normally unless the manufacturer has advised otherwise

According to their site, it costs £220 for AA members to drain the tank or £260 for non members and £300+ if you call a garage.

OOhh God, She put 9 litres in, £12/£13 pound then realised what she had done, 2 men have pushed her off the pumps so it has not been started, She is so upset and skint, but works hard, Surely if you pay for cover then your covered,

thanks
all
Have you a local Small family run garage near where you live? ask them to sort it for her, Its tragic but not that bad as if she hasn't buggered the engine.
What part of the UK? see if someone can help her.
I suggest she' rings the AA back to find out what this will cost her and in the meantime phone a local garage for a quote. If we are correct and its £200+ with the AA then a local gargae might undercut them but be sure it includes the call out and recovery costs in both cases.

She is in beconsfield ( high wycombe) at the mo, which is miles around 35/40 miles away from her house, She has phoned her mum and they are on there way to her now.

thankyou all for your help
jo
Having just called my mum, I stand corrected
She didn't get the AA to do it cos they were far to expensive!
The garage, which luckily was directly behind the petrol station did it for £65
If she has only put 9 litres in, just fill up the tank to full, will be ok, I have done this twice before.
Arrr Mum's on the way, all's OK now. Hope she has deep pockets!

Get Mum to do the same then and call a local garage for a comparison quote.
Question Author
ok will do now
.
it wont do any damage as long as most of it drained then refilled with diesel..
How did you get on Jo?
Question Author
She did try 2 garages near to where she was, ( petrol station got her the numbers) but 1 was closed and the other one was just as expensive as AA, The AA came out and drained her tank and put a cleaner through the system, they said any different fuel over 5 litres would do damage to the engine.
they charged her £235.00, ouch
they all come up with the damage the engine routine, i have worked i garages all my life,in the last 12 years repairing insurance claims, i have never once come across an engine being replaced because of misfuelling.
