I have an old photograph of a couple and in the background I can see Whitby Fruit Store and a shop called Faye's (I THINK it may be a dress shop). I believe that the photo is pre 1960. Does anybody know the name of the road; it looks as though it may be the main high street. I've tried to Google but it's coming up with Castleton for some reason; I thought that was a different place. Can you help please?

Thanks TOH. Yes I like it on here too. I quite often have "mystery" photos and mostly when I ask or help it's there as quick as a flash.
The road leading down from the East side to the swing bridge is called Church Street. There are no buildings on that street that remotely resemble the ones in the pic. I will stake my life savings, the kids AND my priceless collection of Rupert annuals that this is not Whitby,North Yorkshire
PS Castleton is miles out of Whitby. If you ever watched the series The League of Gentlemen, Castleton is like a rural Royston Vasey lol

Mystery solved I think! Someone posted this for me. Whitby is an actual area of Ellesmere Port - not just a street called Whitby Road, so now it's making much more sense to me. Thank you all. Especially Mrs O - your Rupert annuals are safe!!! PS Sorry for late reply - been away for a few days. x
