Question Author
Hi, on the news this morning they said the UK was paying Double that of Europe for the fuel! why? I cannot understand this, we are supposed to be on the same parr.
which court are you talking of?
Whom do you suggest the hauliers take to court?

What law/s do you think they are breaking?
The amount of tax levied by member states is not subject to European law so the elected government can charge what it feels is necessary. I am guessing it is the government you are attacking rather thn the fuel companies
I'm not sure that cheap fuel is a human right!

The taxation we pay varies from one country to another - you might get cheaper fuel elsewhere but they claw it back elsewhere.

For example the average taxation compared to GDP works out so:

Ireland 32.6
lSpain 33.0
Portugal 33.6
New Zealand 35.4
Canada 35.7
Greece 34.0
United Kingdom 35.5
Germany 36.5
Netherlands 42.2
Norway 41.9
Italy 42.1
Austria 42.3
high-tax
France 43.4
Belgium 44.9
Finland 46.2
Denmark 49.0
Sweden 50.5

And I think you'll find European prices of fuel are pretty similar now we're the second most expensive after Norway but there's only pence in it

I'm sure a good solicitor could turn fuel pricing into a Human Rights issue - the ECHR seems to be expanding its sphere of activities in all directions. <]:-)
