Would you go to a gig on your own?

I want to go and see Ben Howard play but I don't know anyone else that likes him or would even just go with me but I think I'd feel a bit odd going on my own. Would you?

I'm in the same situation. Theres an american rock band I really like called 'Blackstone Cherry' who are touring over here next month. They are supported by an Northern Irish rock band called 'The Answer' who are worth the ticket price alone.

Its not really Mrs B's music. I have a few friends on FB who've expressed an interest. They are people I know 'in the real world' but we're not pally enough to have organised anything concrete.

I do enjoy my own company to a certain extent, but feel the need to be able to enjoy that with someone else.

In my late teens, many moons ago, I often went to gigs on my own and would still do it now if there was anyone worth seeing. Doesnt bother me at all, even the travelling

A lot of the pubs around here have live music, too. I like sitting on my own with a drink and a book, listening to the bands. I usually buy their CDs if they are selling them. Supporting live performers, and all that.

I'm a female and I always go places on my own! Last year I saw Neil Diamond, I go to the cinema nearly every week on my own, I have half a dozen theatre shows booked and I also go on holiday on my own.

I think its great because you only have yourself to worry about! This sounds like I'm a "billy no mates" I know, but I do have loads of friends, I just prefer to go places solo.

My daughter has the same prob, she wants to go to a gig in Shepherds Bush London. Gotye ( pronounced go - tee - yeah) a one night gig & then they're off to the USA, its a long trek from here her OH is working that night, she probably won't get hame til after 1am.

Jemisa - the good thing is, Gotye will attract a nice well-behaved audience, so no need to worry about your daughter being safe.

be thankful she doesn't want to go and see Maralyn Manson!!!

Everybody says that jayne, but I don't think it is! But I suppose to a person who rarely does these sort of things alone, it must look that way - best holiday I've ever had solo has got to be New York!

My brother goes to gigs all the time on his own.... around once a week. I would but only if Mr Grohl was meeting me after lol

Yes, and I have enjoyed them. And I am nearly 65. The best one was The Pretenders at a picnic concert where I ended up dancing all night, and Madness was good too, pouring with rain and freezing cold in Thetford Forest - again danced the night away. Loads of people go on their own to gigs and you don't feel alone if you are amongst people who enjoy the same sort of music that you do.

Yes I've been on my own lots of time, I love live music so if no-one else wants to go I'm happy going on my own.
i prefer to go the cinema on my own, and sometimes on trips on my own for the break!

I wouldn't go out for a meal on my own. A cafe for a quick snack and a cuppa, yes, but not for a meal. Would feel somewhat awkward with noone to talk to and to meal going out for a meal is as much about the company as the food. Gigs are different they are all about enjoying the music and noone would be looking at you.

used to go loads of gigs on my own mainly in the 70´s+80´s mainly cuz none of my g´friends were interested.also it didnt matter, cuz most of the bands were heavy rock, so i would so focussed on the bands, so much so, id 4get all about my other half.

If I wanted to go somewhere and there was no one to go with me of course I would go on my own. (late middle aged female) If I wanted to go to a restaurant or pub alone to eat then I would take a book. I would consider carefully how to get home safely if it finished late or was in a risky area and might go so far as to get a mate to be my phone buddy who I would contact to say I was home safely because I live alone. Life is too short to pass up chances.

IMO, I feel a tad inhibited if i go to gigs with a g´friend, i have done it, and it wasn´t the same.

Mr BD and I go to as many concerts as we can - AC/DC, Jackson Browne, Chris Rea, Nils Lofgren, Rufus Wainwright - to name a few. We have quite a wide range of music likes, but a few years ago he stook a stance and refused point blank to go and see the Backstreet Boys with me. I have a been a fan for years and have most of their CDs. As I purchased the tickets a few months before the concert I was sure I could get someone to go with me on the night but as the time drew near I was having no luck. The women I worked with thought I was mad, my daughter said No No No and my son managed to be working that night. I ended up going with my daughter's boyfriend, who was a part time DJ in the evenings and loved all sorts of music. So if you can imagine a nearly 60yr old white lady with a 38yr old good looking black guy at the MEN arena you can imagine some of the looks we got. I was looking back and thinking "If only you knew how wrong you are". Gave us both a bit of a laugh. I have to say that I would have gone on my own if necessary so just go and enjoy yourself.
