IF she posted it a a post office as a small packet she would have been given a reicept - she's probably lost it - its proof of postage. I doubt she will have any claim without receipt or proof of postage.
Hi,
you need to ask for proof of posting, they do not give them out otherwise.
Pick up a lost post form from the post office and fill it in. when you read it, you will probably decide to not bother and throw it in the bin. It is so complicated and ask's so many questions that I ( run an internet bussiness) don't bother. if it's missing, then thats it, but, I have had packages returned to me weeks after I posted them, but if there is no return address, then it will probably be lost forever. The post office want you to fill the form in so they can see if there are any dodgy postman who are stealing stuff, they don't want to refund your money.

thanx alot but while i am here can i ask that is a proof of posting the same as a certicate of postingith a diffrent name
Question Author
sorry that should say certificate of posting with a diffrent name
Yes, a certificate of posting is the same as proof of posting. It shouldn't make any difference as to whether the package was sent recorded or not. Recorded is not tracked. It goes in the ordinary post, but it is signed for at the other end, so you can check that it got there. If recorded delivery is lost in the system there is no way of finding out where it it. Get your claim form from the Post Office and fill it in. You do not need a proof of posting (or certificate of posting). Send it off and see what happens. It isn't going to cost you anything (other than a tiny bit of ink and a bit of time), so it's worth doing.
IMO recorded delivery is a waste of money. I paid for it about 3 years ago, yet the recipient still has not received it. Nor has anyone else signed for it, If the parcel is worth less than £27 (unless the amount has changed) get proof of posting. If it's worth more, either send Special Delivery or Parcel Force and pay insurance up to the value that it is worth.
micmak - the value covered for items sent 1st or 2nd class, recorded or not is always 100 x 1st class stamps, so at the moment it is £46.
