Vertical Splits in thumb nails
11 Answers
I have asked for advise before on this one but no success with any suggestions as yet so thought I would try again. My thumb nails have two vertical splits either side and I have tried everything to get them to heal. Has anyone suffered with this and have you had any success with anything to cure it. TIA X

i have found with this, that sometimes to the left side of the split, you can peel the top layer of the nail away, leaving a very thin, but unsplit nail. use sally hansen or anything similar,to then protect, and a nail handcream.try not to use those thumbs at their bad sides when pressing on anything in general daily use. sometimes this works for me and other times i end up having to keep the nails filed down. not the biggest problem in life, but very annoying!!
Oh dear Anne, that's the trouble with looking up things on the internet.
Smurf's link gives the best advice of all in my opinion.
Nail hardeners and protectors can actually cause the nails to split more. Nail oil and occasional buffing and lashings of hand cream seem to work best for me. (I have never had good nails) And, although it is a real bind, use rubber gloves for every job which involves water.
