I'm all filled in, have the 'cryptic hint' from the correct letters from misprints, I've also got the two nine letter inhabitants and am pretty sure what colour to use in the central square...............
..........but, I've no idea about the seven horizontal blocks of 18 cells
Can anyone help me please?

You've certainly identified the location by the looks of it, so I would recommend you consult a map. The blocks of cells are the abbreviated names of the bits that go to make up the location. They're roughly where you would expect them to be if you consider the grid as the map.

Interesting that you've done it this way round. I've got the blocks but am now looking for the inhabitants!

The inhabitants are (now, here I'm having problems gining a clue without giving you the answer!)
They start with A & M and both start in column 3 and are 'mirror images'
Any chance you could hint where I start the blocks?
If you need more clues (don't think you will) just ask!

To help you get started, look at the first 2 letters of your answer at 27A. This is one of the 7 blocks. You'll find another at the opposite end of the next row down. From there, the rest should become clear.
