I am going to a wedding near Dumfries soon (long journey).

Can anyone recommend things to see and do around the Dumfries & Galloway area so I can explore a bit while I am there as it may be the one and only time I visit.

Castle Douglas is a nice foodie town with lots of lovely gift shops and places to browse.

The Solway coast is nice for a drive out, can't think of specific locations off the top of my head. There is either an RSPB or Wild Fowl and Wetlands trust place at Caerlaverock.

The Duke of Bucchleuch's Drumlanrig Castle is also worth a visit.

As more places occur to me I'll post them, what sort of thing are you interested in?

I usually have a quick look at an area map then set off "on a wander". I like gardens, nature reserves/walks, anything to do with the coastline.

I will try the website first.

Many thanks for your prompt replies.
