In the absence of a telecoms section.....has anyone else been getting quite aggressive telesales calls this week?

I've had a couple where when I've gone on to explain that as a subscriber to the TPS I shouldn't receive these calls etc, etc...

I then have been told 'to hang on lady, that's what I'm trying to tell you....'

I had quite a few yesterday and have had a few today, much more than normal and all are quite brisk verging on aggressive.

I'm quite happy to hang up but I do fear for the less asserive in society.

Eccles, do not be drawn into a fight with them, it only takes a second to put the phone down they will get the message.
No I haven't, Caller Preference means we don't get any like that, these days.

TWR, I'm so hacked off that I am noe vying for a fight!

I'm usually quite chilled and polite, mindful that they are all doing a job, this weeks callers have been a whole different bunch.

I need to keep my wits about me and remember to put them on mute whilst I find the master of the house.........could be a long search..... ;-)
'Hold the line whil I find the homeowner, please' .......exit stage left -have cup of tea and biscuit, do the washing up etc.....return to a dead line. Yippee!
A plastic whistle is useful . . .
I had one tonight Eccles at 6pm, I let them waffle for a min, never answered then put the phone down, many a time I feel like saying FCK off but I'm not that ignorant! some on here will disagree though? do not let them wind you up it's not worth it.
I have to admit that since subscribing to the TPS I have seen a massive reduction in cold calling :0) Well worth taking the time out to do it and it only takes minutes.

No nothing.....touching wood!
Me too Lisa - very glad I did it thanks to a tip on AB.
Why do they always do it when I'm eating.

We've been with TPS for years which has been generally successful and on the whole all the miscreants have been quite apologetic. This week has been out of this world though, I can handle the calls when they politely accept my TPS response but I've never known rudeness. Very odd, from a salesperson......
It's helpful to speak a foreign language with these. Let them waffle on for a while, then say "Je ne vous comprends pas" or "Ich verstehe Sie nicht". If they reply in that language, just say "No, sorry, I still don't understand" and put the phone down.
i have caller display so most times i ignore numbers i dont know and other times i put them on hold and then leave it for a while, they can pay for the call!!! they are so obtrusive i wish they would get lost !!!!!!!!!!!
thanks lloyd ill try that one !!!
We keep getting BT on wanting to "improve" our service from them, one question was "do you get a lot of cold calls?" When we say No we dont, except from BT they're a bit tongue-tied. We also get a lot of calls chasing the people who had our number before us and many of them, when we say No it's not us, hang up before we can explain.
We are registered with the TPS but when we moved we took the number with us. We get calls for the other people who used to have the number and they never believe that I am not that person or that I am not related to them (really hacks me off that they infer I am lying in someway ).
What annoys me is when they ring, ask how you are blah blah blah & then say that before they can continue for security purposes they just want to check a few of my details!

Hang on - they rang me!
When they try and sell you something just say "does it matter that I am declared bankcrupt"?
TPS can't stop the overseas calls.

I like someone's suggestion on here to put the phone up to the smoke dtector, and press 'test'
